"We truly believe to design something well you should understand how it is built, the construction gives you your bones to the garden, creating our spaces to use and areas to plant."
Hampton Court 2008 - The Sweetest Taste
As New Ground Landscapes establishes itself as one of the country’s leading garden construction firms, it is events such as the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show that help demonstrate its work. Run by the Royal Horticultural Society every July, the show is an extravaganza of garden design, horticultural excellence and, this year, a showcase of ‘growing your own’.
New Ground Landscapes created the large ‘Growing Tastes Kitchen Garden’ show feature designed by landscape architect Michael Balston. Featuring a huge variety of vegetables grown by the gardeners at RHS Garden Wisley, the garden displays fruit and veg inspired by Asian, Mediterranean and traditional British cuisine. Over-sized woks and wicker baskets hold produce, along with pots of herbs and vegetables, all surveyed by mature fruit and olive trees. Trellis and supports around the side of the garden give a contemporary but useable feel. Stone sets are contrasted by aluminium raised beds, grey gravel and painted woodwork. The overall feel is that of a modern but highly useable kitchen garden.
