"We truly believe to design something well you should understand how it is built, the construction gives you your bones to the garden, creating our spaces to use and areas to plant."
Chelsea 2008 - A Welcome Sight
A Welcome Sight, designed by Adam Frost and built by New Ground Landscapes, epitomises an ideal city front garden, providing a welcome to the house’s occupants. Designed for a couple with an eye for details and an appreciation of outside space, this garden uses running water, bold planting, wooden fencing and seating and stone paving to highlight the potential of a front garden. Mature shrubs give height and depth, while low-growing clipped Buxus and mixed planting define the space and soften the edges of city life.
“The inspiration came from a frustration that front gardens often function only as a domestic car park and no longer act as a meeting place. I wanted to design a garden that would not only welcome you home and make you smile, but also make you want to sit and socialise with your neighbour.
I believe gardens should be simple, functional and individual. They should be about the people that live in them and not about current trends and fashions. Above all, a garden needs to sit comfortably in its own environment”.
